3 Classic Citrus Fruit Cocktails

Citrus fruit cocktails are always a welcome treat at parties, but they are perfect for holiday parties where guests may want an alternative to egg nog and other holiday drinks. Cocktail season is just around the corner. Spice up your holiday parties this year by serving some of these easy traditional citrus cocktails in addition to egg nog and other Christmas drinks.  You can make great cocktails for your guests without spending a fortune to stock your home with alcohol.
With some fresh fruit, a few high quality liquors, and a little imagination you can serve cocktails your guests will love without spending your entire party budget on drinks. All of these cocktails are easy and inexpensive to mix. All you need is some great fresh citrus fruits like Florida oranges, fresh lemons, fresh grapefruits, and some exotic Blood oranges or Honeybells if you want to put a unique twist on some old favorites. These three citrus cocktails should be on the menu for your holiday parties:

1.Screwdriver - The Screwdriver is proof that simple, high quality ingredients make a delicious drink.  All you need for this cocktail is a high quality vodka and some fresh Florida orange juice. If you want to add a little personality to the drink try making it with Honeybell Tangelos, which have deliciously sweet and tart juice which will play well off the vodka.  A Screwdriver made from flavored vodka and Blood orange juice is also a great holiday drink because the Blood orange juice will give the drink a lovely red color. Garnish with orange segments or lime slices.

2. Holiday Rum - Combine your favorite dark Rum with Blood orange juice for a holiday colored dark spiced cocktail. You can also serve this cocktail hot with some additional spices.  You can substitute fresh Florida orange juice for Blood orange juice if you cannot find Blood oranges but the color of the Blood orange juice adds to the visual appeal of the drink.

3. Gin Sour - This refreshing grapefruit cocktail is made by combining high quality gin, fresh Ruby Red grapefruit juice, and simple syrup. Simple syrup is a mixture of sugar and water that takes the bite out of cocktails made with hard liquor like gin.  Squeeze the juice from half a Blood orange into this cocktail if you want to add a touch of orange flavor to cut the tartness of the grapefruit.
