3 Ways to Add Citrus Fruits to Your Favorite Breakfast

One of the main reasons why people do not eat more citrus fruit in the morning is because it is very easy to fall into a morning routine that does not include citrus fruit, and sometimes may not even include breakfast except for a cup of coffee or tea.  Eating citrus fruits in the morning will give you a healthy boost to get your brain going and start your day off on a positive note. The vitamins and minerals in citrus fruits are a natural, low calorie, healthy way to get yourself moving and get the energy you need to make it through the morning. If you want to start eating citrus fruit in the morning but you cannot seem to figure out how to make it work in your morning routine here are some tips to help you work citrus fruit or citrus juice into your existing routine:

Substitute citrus juice for water - If you are eating oatmeal in the morning use Florida orange juice or super sweet Honeybell tangelo juice in your oatmeal instead of water. If you usually make a smoothie in the morning use fresh grapefruit juice or orange juice in the smoothie instead of water. You will be only adding a few calories to your usual breakfast and you will get a huge nutritional boost.

Plan ahead - Squeeze some fresh Florida orange juice or grapefruit juice into a reusable canteen and put it in the fridge at night, so that you can grab it on your way out the door. Drink the juice on your morning commute and you will arrive at work or school mentally alert and ready to start your day. Plus, you will save money because you will not be tempted to stop and buy sodas or coffee if you have delicious cold fresh citrus juice already with you. You can also put some Florida oranges or grapefruits in your briefcase or bag so that you have a quick snack ready to go when you get hungry around mid-morning.

Pack breakfast if you usually skip it - Citrus bars made with oats and granola, fresh orange juice and lemon zest are a fast and tasty breakfast treat that can be made ahead of time. Once a week make a pan of Citrus Breakfast bars and wrap them in individual portions. Put an individually wrapped portion next to your coffee maker each night or put one in your purse so that you will have  quick, healthy, citrus fruit breakfast you can eat on your way to work.

  1. I agree with you. We grab cereal or toast, or the very worst, a doughnut. When I was growing up, my mother and grandmother always included half a grapefruit with breakfast. Fruits were always around my house. Especially oranges, bananas, and grapes. You have a really nice blog here.I would like to add your blog to my blog roll. Please visit my blog any time!
